The Truth about Bottle Water
Bottled water Oops. For years I have been buying bottled water because it is so obviously healthier. At least that is what everybody said. Once again it seems it was just another marketing opportunity. If you don’t believe me just ask yourself who owns the biggest bottled water companies. You guest it, Pepsi is known as Aquafina and Coke as Dasani in the world of branded bottled water. Rather clever, sell sugary drinks and then just in case include the “healthy” alternative. I guess it makes good business sense, nothing wrong with that its just that bottled water is really not healthy.
The plastic used to bottle water is full of hormone-disrupting chemicals. Anti-estrogens and anti-androgens are present in the majority of bottled water. The Estrogen in water from plastic bottles is three times higher than glass bottles. The contaminants in the bottled water are endocrine disruptors and also increase your risk of cancer. We are not even going to mention the pollutants, like Tylenol and industrial chemicals found in bottled water.
- Dr. Gina Solomon, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental advocacy group, told The New York Times that “there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap water.”
Well it is back to basics for me, good old rainwater and charcoal filtered water in stainless or glass bottles. Pity about that. I enjoyed the convenience of a bit of cold bottled water. Buying a bottle of pure water made me feel a bit superior to all my soda pop drinking peers. So hence the title of this article, bottled water Oops.
